12th Austroads Bridge Conference 2025

Conference Photography at Brisbane’s Royal International Convention Centre

Photographer at Large provided the official event photography for the 12th Austroads Bridge Conference (ABC25), held from 25–27 June 2025 at Brisbane’s Royal International Convention Centre (RICC).

The three-day conference was the largest Austroads Bridge Conference held to date, bringing together more than 600 delegates from Australia, New Zealand and internationally. Bridge practitioners, structural engineers, material scientists and infrastructure professionals came together in Brisbane to share knowledge, examine developments across bridge engineering and strengthen connections across the industry.

Working alongside Nectar Creative Communications, a valued event-management client we have worked with across a number of professional conferences and events over the years, our role was to create a comprehensive photographic record of ABC25 — from the major plenary moments through to the people, technical discussions and interactions taking place throughout the wider conference.

Three Days of Conference, Exhibition and Industry Photography

With a substantial technical program running across multiple streams, ABC25 covered areas including bridge design and assessment, construction, asset management, sustainability, materials and technology, field applications, load assessment and lessons from bridge damage and failure.

Our photography followed the event across its full program. We documented keynote speakers and technical presentations, panel discussions and audience participation, networking and delegate interaction, exhibition stands and sponsor activity, event branding, venue and room photographs, social functions and the conference dinner.

Coverage also extended beyond the conference rooms. The program incorporated technical and social experiences around Brisbane, including a Brisbane River cruise and bridge technical tour, giving us the opportunity to document delegates experiencing the city and its bridge infrastructure in a very different setting from the formal conference program.

The resulting collection tells a much broader story than stage photography alone. It records the scale of the conference, the depth of industry participation and the professional connections happening around the presentations — while providing Austroads and the event team with a substantial library of photos for communications, reporting, promotion and future conference marketing.

Capturing a Significant Australasian Bridge Industry Event

ABC25 was an important gathering for the bridge engineering community and ultimately became the largest Bridge Conference in Austroads’ history.

Alongside its technical and educational program, the conference provided opportunities to recognise achievement within the profession. The Austroads Bridge Awards celebrated outstanding bridge projects and design across Australia and New Zealand, while networking initiatives including Women in Bridges added another dimension to the professional connections taking place across the event.

For our photographers, assignments of this scale require an understanding of how a multi-stream conference moves and where the meaningful moments are occurring beyond the obvious program highlights. A keynote presentation, a packed exhibition stand, delegates exchanging ideas between sessions, an award recipient on stage or conversations continuing during a technical tour can each communicate a different part of the event.

Our aim throughout ABC25 was to capture those different layers consistently, creating photos that document what happened while also showing the people, scale, expertise and sense of community behind the conference.

Experienced Brisbane Conference & Corporate Event Photographers

The 12th Austroads Bridge Conference is a strong example of the large-scale conference and industry event photography Photographer at Large provides in Brisbane.

We work closely with professional conference organisers, associations, government organisations and corporate event teams to photograph complete event programs — including plenary and concurrent sessions, exhibitions, networking functions, gala and awards dinners, technical tours, sponsor activity and other associated events.

For long-term event partners such as Nectar Creative Communications, that also means being a dependable part of the wider event team: understanding the brief, adapting as the program moves and providing consistent photographic coverage across every component of the event.
